If you want to drive your Singaporean-plate vehicle into Malaysia, you need a valid and activated Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). Otherwise you will be fined RM300 on the spot and will not be allowed to leave Malaysia until the fine is paid and your VEP is activated.
Full enforcement began July 1, and by the end of the fifth day, the Johor road transport department (JPJ) had already issued 190 saman totalling RM57,000 at the Malaysia-Singapore land crossing, Bernama reports.
“So far, VEP enforcement at the land checkpoints has proceeded smoothly,” Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan told the news agency recently, adding that 1,767 vehicles were inspected and 94 vehicles were issued warning notices.
The aims of the VEP system are to manage cross-border traffic flow and enhance the enforcement of road transport laws involving foreign vehicles. Singapore also has a VEP system, applying to all non-Singaporean vehicles.
